The next generation of gaming consoles is around the corner, meaning gamers will have to fork out some cash if they wish to acquire the new machines and the games to go along with the consoles. If you are broke or just looking to hold on to your money for the new consoles and games but are looking for some free games to play while you wait, you have come to the right place.
There are plenty of free games out right now on both PC and console, I have narrowed the list down to four titles that I believe will guarantee you and your friends a great time without costing a penny.
EVE: online is a massive PC exclusive sandbox Massively Multiplayer online game (MMO) that takes place in a star cluster called New Eden made of thousands of solar systems. This game is built on complex layers of story and mechanics, and it might take you some time to dominate some aspects of the game, but after some learning, this game is a ton of fun.
The visuals are great; the chaos and control a player have to choose his adventure in the universe are unparalleled. If you do not mind a bit of a learning curve in playing a game, give it a shot.
If you stripped down the Monster Hunter series games to core components and repackaged the product as a free to play online game, you would get something close to Dauntless. Dauntless employs the same hunt, craft repeat loop that Monster Hunters players will be familiar with.
Each slain monster can be used to craft more weapons and armor that would take the slain monster’s attributes.
Designs of the monsters are a mix of creatures from a fantasy world and real-world creatures; I found particularly fun discovering the monsters as I explored the game. Dauntless is a cross-platform game supported on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Apex Legends is a Battle Royale game developed by Respawn Entertainment, the developers behind Titanfall. The moment it launched, it grew in popularity, garnering 50 million players in its first month of launch.
Its world design aside, Respawn Entertainment redefined the Battle Royale genre. The zip lines, pinging system, dropships, the jumpmaster system, and many other cool features baked in make other Battle Royale titles pale in comparison. You can play Apex Legends on PC, X Box One, and PS4.
Fortnite needs no introduction at this point. Developed by Epic Games, this Battle Royale game doesn’t seem distinguishable from the bunch. Where Fortnite sets itself apart in its tone and personality.
Fortnite’s world is full of life and has clever mechanics to it. Everything around the world can be mined for wood, stone, and steel, which can be used to build structures like bridges for movement and walls for defense, making Fortnite such a blast to play.
Free to play games do not suck anymore. If you are strapped for cash or wish to save for newer hardware or game, there are fantastic games out there that will not let you down.
